An all new car will soon roll the indian streets under the Volkswagen brand. Volkswagen is gearing up to launch the Volkswagen Jetta, its trump card for the Indian C-size market.The Volkswagen Jetta is an automobile produced by German automaker Volkswagen since 1979. The new manufacturing unit coming up at Chakan (Pune) is being built at an investment of 410 million Euros and is expected to be ready for production in the first half of 2009.
Jetta will come to India in petrol and diesel versions, the diesel Jetta fitted with the same 1.9 litre engine which comes standard in Skoda Octavia. There will be a 1.6 litre petrol edition too. The petrol model of Volkswagen Jetta is expected to come with two engine options: 100 BHP and 115 BHP. Talking about features - the entry-level models have features such as alloy wheels, metallic paint, power mirrors and RCD 300 radio with up to 8 loudspeakers.
The top version is enhanced by additional comfort, convenience and infotainment features. These include, for example, power leather seats, rain sensor, cruise control system and additional side airbags in the rear.Volkswagen is likely to launch the Jetta in India at a price tag of Rs 7-9 lakh. Now, at this price, it is guaranteed to take a chunk of the mid-size market giving tough competition to the mid-size market leader Honda City, close combatant Maruti SX4 and others like Chevrolet Aveo and Ford Fiesta.
Next to the Passat, the Jetta is the second vehicle of the Volkswagen brand to be produced in the Aurangabad plant for India.Volkswagen plans on expanding on its base firmly in India. So we will soon get to see the classic brand driving smoothly through the roads of India.
