Car Logo - the story behind

The Audi's Four Rings is the emblem of one of the oldest car manufacturers in Germany. It symbolises the 1932 merger of the four independent motor-vehicle manufacturers: Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer. Together with the NSU brand, which joined in 1969, these companies are the roots of the present-day AUDI AG.
After the war the Audi name - which is Latin for "Hear!" disappeared, but was revived in 1965, using the four rings as a logo. The company itself is more than a century old.
And hey ! ...the four rings in the logo have nothing to do with the Olympic rings.

BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke or Bavarian Motor Company. The company was established in 1913 and based in Munich, Germany. It started out as an aero engine manufacturer, hence the company logo. The logo comprised of four quadrants of alternating white and blue color. It is a stylized representation of an airplane propeller spinning against the clear blue sky. The logo represents a white propeller blade against a blue sky. It reflects the origins of BMW as a maker of military aircraft engines during WWI. Also, white and blue are the traditional colors of Bavaria.

Jaguar Cars Limited is a British based luxury car manufacturer, originally with headquarters in Browns Lane, Coventry, England but now at Whitley, Coventry. It was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922,by two motorcycle enthusiasts, William Lyons and William Walmsley, and changed its name to Jaguar in 1945. The company has been owned by Ford since 1989.

The founder of Lamborghini, Ferrucio Lamborghini, had a passion of bull fighting, as seen by the logo chosen for his car company - a charging bull. Mr. Lamborghini also carried this theme over to the names of his cars, almost all of which were named after eithera breed of fighting bull or a particular bull.

The Mercedes-Benz logo is one of the most famous brands in the world. The patented name "Mercedes" was registered in September 1902. The Benz logo is a simplistic three-pointed star that represents its domination of the land, the sea, and the air. The famous three-pointed star was designed by Gottlieb Daimler to show the ability of his motors for land, air and sea-usage. It was first seen on a Daimler in 1909, and was combined with the Benz laurel wreath in 1926 to signify the union of the two firms. Mercedes-Benz is the world's oldest automobile manufacturer.

Skoda Fabia (India) - a mIXeD reaction !!

The Czech car manufacturer, Skoda Auto of the Volkswagen Group, has introduced its second generation Skoda Fabia in India as a 2008 model. The Fabia in India arrives after much awaited, 4 months delay. It is launched with the following trim levels :

  • 3 diesel version (Classic, Ambiente and Elegance) and
  • 1 petrol version (Elegance) only.
The diesel Fabia gives amazing fuel efficiency, which is close to 14.1 km/litre in the city and 18.5 km/litre on the highway. The Petrol variant delivers approximately 14.7 km/litre on the highway. The price is tagged close to 8 lakhs.

Coming to features. The look is somewhat similar to Maruti Swift but comparing the Interior, Safety and features of Fabia with it is useless. European Engineering is unmatchable. The mileage is the best you can get from cars of such high class. The beauty speaks for itself and the boot space is the largest among so called small cars.

And now the cons. The price tag is a bit higher (overprice is tweaking the common man), in the Indian market, as compared with present small cars. The diesel engine noise is very irritating and it sounds as loud as an indica, perhaps even louder. Combined with the poor service & costly spares of skoda, this car is not getting the right pick up. Expected to give swift a tough competition but the result seems to go the other way.

I’m sure those of you who think twice before spending your money would look for better options, may be buy a Fiesta/City/Aveo/Jazz. But still, if we want to purchase some good car in lesser amount, its not wise to call that overpriced. What's your stand ?

Car Audio System

Music is a great companion, whether you’re stuck in traffic or enjoying a long drive. And the perfect car audio system is just what you need to enhance the pleasure of listening to your favorite tracks.

There are two ways of getting an audio system in your car - buying it built-in (these are called factory systems) when you buy the car or adding it later (these are called aftermarket systems). Aftermarket systems offer greater customization.

Car audio sound effect is quite different from what we hear in our homes. What is necessary is that the sound should not be distorted when the automobile is in motion
. It is therefore necessary to check the car audio system when the car is in motion as well as when stationary. Test the automobile stereo by sitting in the front. There lies the challenge. At the rear seat all systems will sound good.

Good sound systems come from companies like Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine and others. They provide heavy amplifiers, their matching woofers, speakers and tweeters so that sound comes with a real BLAST.

World's most eco-friendly car - Tata OneCat

You must have joked in the past saying yea run your car using AIR. Well it will never be a joke anymore. The major automobile company from India, Tata Motors and the famous automobile engineer Guy Negre are going to launch a brand new car - The Tata OneCat.
This new zero-emission vehicle, with five seats and glass fiber body, weighs 350 kg and runs on compressed air stored in carbon fiber tank. The car would have a range of around 300 km between refuels. The cost of a refill would be about Rs 90. For longer journey one can use conventional fuel like diesel and petrol but with air one can drive the car at speeds below 50.
The car will be ready for its launch in India and Europe by the end of this year or early 2009 within a price range of between £2,500 and £3,000. Expecting the car to be economical Negre said, “The first buyers of the air car will be people who care about the environment."

Fiat, which is aggressively trying to expand its presence in India, is launching its much-talkedabout two-door lifestyle car Fiat 500 this month. The Fiat 500 small car will be imported to India as a completely built unit, as an image building exercise for the car maker in the country.

The Maruti 800, Hyundai Santro and Honda City are cars that do the job of providing transportation from point A to point B but the spice of life, however, comes from exciting exotic cars like, say, an extremely desirable, wish-I had-one, yellow Lamborghini Murcielago. And…the top speed is 301kp/h!! The company, however, has not decided about the pricing of the car in the Indian market.
The Audi R8, which has won several awards in Germany and Europe, would be available at the company's seven exclusive dealerships in Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Pune, Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Honda CR-V 2008

Honda initially launched its car-based CR-V model in compact SUV market in 1997 . Its mission was simple: to offer a distinct alternative to the prevailing mainstream mid- and full-size large SUVs. With its car-based design, four-cylinder engine and sedan-like ride and handling, the CR-V was an instant hit. One of the country's best-selling compact SUVs was then completely redesigned for 2007. This 2008 model gets no major modification, though.

This five-passenger crossover is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Trim levels include LX, EX, and top-line EX-L with leather upholstery. All have a 166-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 5-speed automatic transmission. Maximum towing capacity is 1500 lb. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags. A navigation system is available on EX-L. For 2008, EX-L models gain a power driver seat and dual-zone automatic climate control.

The 2008 Honda CR-V ranks top amongst the affordable SUVs. The CR-V's high ranking is based on its excellent combination of a practical interior and a reputation for safety and reliability in its class.
