2010 Ford Fusion Sport

Ford released the first image and technical details of the new 2010 Ford Fusion Sport. We only have one image, but it shows the Fusion's new face with an even bigger three-bar grille, nicely contoured hood, angry-eye headlights and a sharply redesigned lower bumper.

The 2010 Ford Fusion Sport will be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that outputs 263 hp and 249 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine of the 2010 Ford Fusion Sport uses a lightweight dual-overhead cam valvetrain for peak power and smooth operation at high RPMs. The best part? The engine will be paired with Ford's 6F35 six-speed automatic transmission.

The unit also features intake variable cam timing that optimizes valve timing which translates into a smooth idle and a broad torque curve. The engine of the 2010 Ford Fusion Sport has a 10.3:1 compression ratio and aluminum cylinder heads designed for high airflow and optimized combustion.

The 2010 Ford Fusion Sport price has not been announced yet.

McLaren F1 Auctioned @ 4 Million USD

At the latest RM Auctions event held on October 29 in London a McLaren F1 sold for no less than 2.530.000 GBP, which is equivalent to more than 4 million USD. The 1997 4 million USD McLaren F1 is powered by a 6.1-litre four overhead camshaft, 48-valve V12 engine that outputs 627bhp and is coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The auctioned 4 million USD McLaren F1 was sold by its first and only owner, had 484 kilometers under its bonnet and was unit number 065. This particular McLaren F1 has a Magnesium Silver paint finish with a black leather interior.

The car is also special because the carbon-fiber transmission tunnel adjacent to the driver’s seat has been signed by Gordon Murray himself.

NISMO 370Z : First Look

It appears that the current NISMO Fairlady Z S-Tune GT might have a replacement waiting in the wings when the new Z car (370Z here in North America) arrives on scene. The photo above is now making the rounds on the web, and at the very least, it indicates that NISMO will probably have accessories (like the body kit shown) ready to go for the Fairlady Z's JDM launch.

Nissan also announced earlier today that the 370Z will make an appearance in the Electronic Arts video game, “Need for Speed Underground.”

The 370Z is expected to use the same VQ37VHR powerplant found in the Infiniti G37 — a V6 displacing 3.7-liter — delivering at least 330 horsepower. Recent rumors indicate a 4.5-liter V8 might also be offered.

Suspension duties for the new car will be handled by a double wishbone setup up front with a multi-link setup out back. Brembo brakes and 18 and 19 inch wheels will also be part of the 370Z package.

Despite a serious upgrade in hardware, the new 370Z is said to weigh less than the outgoing 350Z — giving further credence to its performance credentials.

We expect to hear much more in the days to come, since the 370Z's official unveiling in L.A. is just around the corner.

Teaser : Volvo S60 Concept Car

Volvo S60 is the next generation model, developed by Volvo with Swedish glassworks Orrefor. The Swedish carmaker enlisted the help of Orrefor to come up with an imaginative interior that uses a glass-crystal center panel to give the cabin a light-focused design.

The glass-crystal interior is hand crafted and very labor intensive to make. The crystal panel is integrated into the dashboard and forms a center panel that flows all the way to the rear seat backrest.

The concept car will be shown publicly for the first time at the Detroit international Motor Show in January 2009.

Add Tabbed Menu

Hi friends, you must have seen many blogs with an array of tabs at the top, giving their blog a more professional look. Now you too can add these tabs and give your blog that professional look and feel.

This post will help you add a tabed menu to your blog (as you can see mine - Home, Concept Cars,.. etc). This widget, was a default feature to my present template. To make it better, you need to have a bit knowledge of CSS and HTML.

To add Tabbed Menu to your blog, just go through the following steps.

Step 1 :
Go to your template-> Edit HTML and "expand widget template" [select the check box].

Step 2:
Before making any changes save a copy of your template. To save it to your desktop, just click the link 'Download Full Template' (at the top).

Step 3:
Now first, we need to add the required CSS. Find the tag :
</b:skin>

Just before this tag (i.e. above this tag) Copy-Paste the following code :

/* Tabbed Bar               */
    .tabbed-bar{
        background:url() top left no-repeat;
        height:26px;
        line-height:26px;
        float:left;
        display:block;
        width:auto;
        padding-left:8px;
}
    * html .tabbed-bar, * html .tabbed-bar div{display:block; float:left;}
    .tabbed-bar div{
        background:url() top right no-repeat;
        height:26px;
        line-height:26px;
        padding-right:8px;
    }
    .tabbed-bar a:link, .tabbed-bar a:visited{
        color:#ca0002; text-decoration:none;
    }
    .tabbed-bar a:hover, .tabbed-bar a:hover{
        text-decoration:underline;;
    }

Step 4:
Now we need to place the tags. Find this code in your blog :

          <b:include name='title'/>

      <b:include name='description'/>

Every template (except default blogger templates) may or may not have this code. The point is that the tags need to be just below your Header. But you can always place it according to your choice.

Just below the above mentioned code, paste the following code :

Home

tab2 name

tab3 name

The tags can be added and removed according to your choice.

You can Preview your template and customize it accordingly. After making it your way, Save the template and view the new look of your blog.

You are DONE.

Go to Useful widgets.

Happy Deepavali

DEEPAVALI or Diwali means "a row of lights". It is a major Indian festival, and a significant festival in Hinduism, Sikhism and Jainism. Deepavali is celebrated on the first day of the lunar Kartika month, which comes in the month of October or November.

Today it is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs across the globe as the "Festival of Lights," where the lights or lamps signify victory of good over the evil within every human being. The festival is also celebrated by Buddhists of Nepal, particularly the Newar Buddhists.

There are various alleged origins attributed to this festival. Some hold that they celebrate the marriage of Lakshmi with Lord Vishnu. In Bengal the festival is dedicated to the worship of Kali. It also commemorates that blessed day on which the triumphant Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. On this day also Sri Krishna killed the demon Narakasura.

Everyone forgets and forgives the wrongs done by others. There is an air of freedom, festivity and friendliness everywhere. This festival brings about unity. It instills charity in the hearts of people. Everyone buys new clothes for the family. Employers, too, purchase new clothes for their employees.

O Ram! The light of lights, the self-luminous inner light of the Self is ever shining steadily in the chamber of your heart. Sit quietly. Close your eyes. Withdraw the senses. Fix the mind on this supreme light and enjoy the real Deepavali, by attaining illumination of the soul.

He who Himself sees all but whom no one beholds, who illumines the intellect, the sun, the moon and the stars and the whole universe but whom they cannot illumine, He indeed is Brahman, He is the inner Self. Celebrate the real Deepavali by living in Brahman, and enjoy the eternal bliss of the soul.

The sun does not shine there, nor do the moon and the stars, nor do lightnings shine and much less fire. All the lights of the world cannot be compared even to a ray of the inner light of the Self. Merge yourself in this light of lights and enjoy the supreme Deepavali.

May you all attain full inner illumination! May the supreme light of lights enlighten your understanding! May you all attain the inexhaustible spiritual wealth of the Self! May you all prosper gloriously on the material as well as spiritual planes!

Italian Police's new car - Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 !!

The police-prepped Gallardo was recently donated to the Italian State Police at the Viminale Palace. It’s a good way to ensure that drivers follow the traffic rules on the Italian roads. But, some people might just intentionally flaunt the law in central and Southern Italy just to get a closer look at the new Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia.

Replacing the 2004 Gallardo that’s seen 87,000 miles of patrol duty and emergency medial transport in and around Rome, the LP560-4 Polizia goes into service immediately with the Lazio Highway Police Department.

The distinctive, “blu Polizia” paint job is accented by white stripes that follow the contours of the Gallardo’s body, and the roof lights are specially designed to take the car’s speed capability into account.

The 560-horsepower, 203-mph supercar serves as more than just a visible tool for deterring speeders. It’s a fully functional squad car, with radio, holster, cardiac defibrillator and other safety equipment.

In addition to running down speeders, the Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia can be used for emergency medical transport. The car’s front luggage compartment has been fitted with a refrigeration unit, allowing it to carry donor organs from hospital to hospital with extreme urgency.

The Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia is the third Gallardo police car. The first two have clocked 87,000 and 65,000 miles respectively to date, and have been remarkably reliable with no reported service visits other than routine maintenance.

Tesla Model S Sedan Teaser

Silicon Valley’s Tesla Motors has released a teaser photo of their model S sedan, which has been delayed by the company’s financial and leadership crisis. The model S was originally slated to go into production in 2010 with a 225 mile range on a single battery charge, all for a estimated price of $60,000.

Founder and current CEO, Elon Musk, stated that the sedan would be delayed until the company receives loan guarantees from the US Department of Energy and investors loosen up their terms. With the delay, the model S will face new competitors such as the Chevrolet Volt, Honda Insight, and the redesigned Toyota Prius, all of which will cost significantly less then the Tesla. Musk doesn’t seem too concerned, but potential investors most likely are.

Extensive cost cutting has led the company to close their research and development center in Michigan and layoff a large number of employees. The only good news is that the $100,000 Tesla roadster currently has 1,200 backorders and is now profitable.

We won't be seeing the whole car until the Geneva Motor Show, next March. In the meantime, this is probably just the first of a series of teasers that will appear to keep the publicity pot boiling.

Pagani Zonda R

The Pagani Zonda is a mid-engined sports car produced by Pagani in Italy. It debuted in 1999, with C12 at the Geneva Motor Show and continues through the present, with production proceeding at roughly 10 cars per year.

The Italian manufacturer released new Pagani Zonda R images of the model that was announced in September last year. The Pagani Zonda R is powered by a 7.3-liter V12 engine from Mercedes that's good for 750 hp and 710 Nm of torque.

As of September, 2008, 95 Zondas had been built. Both 2-seat coupe and convertible versions have been produced. Construction is mainly of carbon fiber. To be able to own a Pagani Zonda R you'll have to spend around 1.2 million Euros, and then some more for the taxes !!

Did You Know:
Some early Zonda engineering was done by Formula One champion, Juan Manuel Fangio. The car was originally to be named for him, the "Fangio F1", but the name was changed upon his death in 1995, renamed after an air current above Argentina.

Last of Caterham RS Levante Sold

UK automaker Caterham joined with RS Performance earlier this year to create a special performance model of the Seven roadster. The Caterham RS Levante, first example of this partnership, launched in the spring, is the most powerful Caterham ever built.

And guess what ? it is officially going into production, with only eight cars to be built. Don't get your hopes up, though. All eight have already been sold for £115,000 a piece.

The Caterham RS Levante is powered by a 2.4-litre, 40-valve RST-V8 supercharged engine that outputs and amazing 500+bhp at 10,000rpm and 300 lbsft of torque at 8500rpm. The car only weighs 520 kg which means it has a power-to-weight ratio of 1000bhp-per-tonne - almost twice the one of the Veyron. The Caterham RS Levante has a limited top speed of 150 mph and can reach 60 mph in less than 3 seconds.

In parallel to the success of the Caterham RS Levante, Caterham Cars enjoyed one of its best ever sales periods this summer thanks to the arrival of the critically acclaimed Superlight R500 and the expansion of the Academy race series from two to three grids for the 2009 season.

Peugeot RC HYmotion4 - Parisian Concept

PSA Peugeot Citroen just managed to amaze everyone at the Paris Motor Show the other day, when they showcased the new all-wheel-drive diesel-electric hybrid powertrain called HYmotion4.

It’s already used on the Hypnos and Prologue with a 2.0-liter HDi diesel engine with FAP particulate filter for the front wheels and an electric motor for the rear wheels - that outputs 200hp, a six-speed automated gearbox, a 68 mpg fuel efficiency and only 109 g/km of CO2, that sounds like a deal.

However the newest RC Hymotion4 concept (in the pictures above and below) is a four-door GT that sports a total of 313 hp from a 1.6 litre THP engine that outputs 218 bhp and a 70 W electric engine that sports 95hp.

All these with only 109 g/km of CO2 emissions that will “eat” 4.5 litres of fuel for every 100 km. Oh and if you were interested in knowing how fast it is, it does 0 to 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds. Great for a hybrid, right?

Top 10 Tips On Safe Driving

The increasing number of vehicles in the country has catapulted the importance of safety, while we can't do anything about the circumstances beyond our control; here are a few tips to keep you safe.
  • Do not eat while driving the car. Both your attention and ability to react are impaired. The same goes for cell phones,reading, putting on make-up, shaving, etc. Pull over to the side of the road to complete your job. It is not safe to talk on the cell phone while driving because:
    1. You must look away from the road while dialing/hanging up.
    2. Your attention is elsewhere while completing the conversation, and
    3. In the case of hand-held telephones, you lose mobility as you juggle the telephone.
  • Changing lanes without checking your blind spots and sleepy driving are two major accident-causers. Follow lane while driving and avoid jumping lanes. Always stick to the lane assigned to you and stay with in the speed limits.
  • Breakdown: Preventive maintenance reduces the chances of a breakdown. However, the possibility cannot be overruled. Keep your car well maintained with sufficient fuel to avoid breakdown.
    Carry an advance-warning triangle.
    It can be used to warn other road users if the car is obstructing the road. Place the triangle at a distance of 50mt behind the vehicle. In case you don't possess a warning triangle hang a piece of red cloth on the car.
  • Tire-pressure Monitoring: A well-filled tire is one of the most basic, most important, and most overlooked safety feature.
  • Stay calm. If someone in another car cuts you off or does something you do not like, stay cool. Getting angry or retaliating creates a safety risk. Remember that in the big scheme of things, IT DOESN’T MATTER. Brush it off and move on. It isn’t worth an injury or your life.
  • Always look for road signs and give due importance to them.
  • Use indicators while turning the vehicle left or right, be extra careful while cutting lanes and put the indicators on at least 30 meters before turning. Be extra careful while reversing and look for pedestrians and other obstacles in the rear view mirror.
  • Drive slowly during the rainy season, brake repeatedly after you have come out of a water logged patch.
  • While driving at night make sure that all lights (head and tail) are working. At night drive with the headlight in low beam to avoid bedazzling of vehicles coming from the opposite direction.
    While on the highways make sure you maintain proper distances from heavy vehicles as they might not be able to stop at a short notice.
  • Buy the Safest Car You Can. You've got three kids and a couple of their friends and you can't fit into a sedan, so you're thinking about getting an SUV. Do you really need one? Think before buying your car.
The next time you get into the car, remember these safety tips. They could very well save the life of you and your children.
If you like to add on, You are always welcome to suggest some more safety features, in comments.

Are Solar Cars practical ?

Solar Cars !!... well, we all have heard this name sometime or the other. Many of us may have participated or saw the popular Solar Car races. So, what is the feasibility of these Solar vehicles to be used in daily life ?? Are they efficient enough ? Will they replace the present 4 wheelers in near future ? there are a lot many questions associated, when it comes to Solar cars.

Lets see the picture in detail...

What is a solar vehicle ?
A solar vehicle is an electric vehicle powered by renewable solar energy, obtained from solar panels on the surface (generally, the roof) of the vehicle.

Solar cells:
Photovoltaic (PV) cells convert the Sun's energy directly into electrical energy. Solar vehicles are not practical day-to-day transportation devices at present, but are primarily demonstration vehicles and engineering exercises.

The solar array consists of hundreds of photovoltaic solar cells converting sunlight into electricity. The larger arrays in use can produce over 2 kilowatts (2.6 hp).

Designing of Solar vehicles:
The design of a solar vehicle is severely limited by the energy input into the car (batteries and power from the sun). Virtually all solar cars ever built have been for the purpose of solar car races (with notable exceptions).

Solar cars are often fitted with gauges as seen in conventional cars. Aside from keeping the car on the road, the driver's main priority is to keep an eye on these gauges to spot possible problems.

Battery: The battery pack plays the same role in a solar car that a petrol tank plays in a normal car in storing power for future use. Solar cars use a range of batteries including lead-acid batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries (NiMH), Nickel-Cadmium batteries (NiCd), Lithium ion batteries and Lithium polymer batteries.

Mechanics: The mechanical systems of a solar car are designed to keep friction and weight to a minimum while maintaining strength. Designers normally use titanium and composites to ensure a good strength-to-weight ratio.

Solar cars usually have three wheels, but some have four. Three wheelers usually have two front wheels and one rear wheel: the front wheels steer and the rear wheel follows.

Problems ?
  • There's the problem of how to get around at night or on rainy days when the sun is nowhere to be seen ? Here's where a battery or small gas engine would come in. Most viable solar car projects rely on additional power sources to ensure that the car gets going any time you need it to.
  • And to add, these one-seaters look like pancakes on wheels. As you can guess, driving a car covered in solar panels may not be the most temperate experience. These purely solar-powered cars can heat up quickly since the passenger area is enveloped by the cells.
So, the near future doesn't seem welcoming the Solar idea. Although there are hybrids and concepts being designed to utilize renewable energy sources but the day when you drop your kid to school, on a solar vehicle, seems far away.

Did you Know
Solar car racing has been going on since the 1980s. Common entrants include school, corporate and hobbyist teams.
Here are a couple of the longest-distance examples:
World Solar Challenge: started in 1983, this 1,872-mile (3,012-kilometer) race goes across Australia and happens every three years.
Toyota American Solar Challenge: a 2,400-mile (3,862-kilometer) race from Dallas, Texas, to Alberta, Calgary.

Tata pullout @ Singur and What's nxt ?

Months of uncertainty over the fate of the jinxed Nano project was broken finally on Friday, with Ratan Tata announcing a complete pullout from Singur, a mere 48 hours before the festival season starts off in West Bengal.

Mr Tata declared that he was pulling out from Singur, not because of the West Bengal government’s attitude, but because of ‘Mamata Banerjee’ and her agitational ways. The company has displayed immense patience and had sincerely hoped that the situation would improve.

Ratan Tata reiterated that the project was to be a showcase plant which would have considerably enhanced the visibility of the State, created jobs for the younger citizens of the State and through the company’s community programs, would have enhanced the quality of life of the urban and rural population.

Well, now considering that Tata has decided firmly to quit Singur, we look at the many options Ratan Tata is being offered for Nano plant relocation and also the aftermath in West Bengal.

The Aftermath :
  • The decision by Tata Motors to move the Nano project out of West Bengal after violent protests may affect the broader investment climate in the country, detering foreign investors and denting economic growth.
  • Though the immediate impact would be limited to West Bengal as the Tatas move to a more industry-friendly state, it would have wider repercussions as more states may adopt a harder anti-industry tone for political gains.

Who will BAG the Project ?
...and the nominees are:
  • Gujarat: The state has offered three strategic locations to Tata Motors, for setting up the Nano plant in Gujarat - Mundra in Kutch district, Charodi in Sanand taluka of Ahmedabad district and one location in the Surat district.
  • Karnataka: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyrappa stepped up its efforts to lure Tata Motors to shift its small car project to Karnataka,and invited Tata CMD Ratan Tata for discussion.
  • Maharashtra: As Ratan Tata made Nano's exit from West Bengal official, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh renewed his invitation to set up the car plant in the state. He reiterated that his government will give all necessary facilities to start the Nano plant in the state.
  • Orissa: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik asked him to utilise the company's unused land at Gopalpur in Ganjam district and avail all facilities provided to investors under the Industrial Policy Resolution-2007 and where Tata already have in their possession about 3700 acres land since 1998.
  • Uttarakhand: The government is keen to provide every possible assistance to the industry for relocation. Chief Minister B C Khanduri also highlighted the advantages such as good rail, air and road connectivity, availability of continuous electricity and tax incentives on account of special industrial package.
Considering the tragic pullout of Nano project from West Bengal, Ratan Tata, although being offered varied lucrative locations for Nano, will make decision only after being assured of 'no politics' in business.

Paris Concepts Unveiled !

The curtains over Concepts were finally raised. After a series of teasers and speculations, the auto makers, finally, revealed their concepts. Every concept is unique in its own way! ...let us have a look :

Lamborghini Estoque Concept

Following a tantalizing series of teaser images, the Lamborghini Estoque four door concept is finally revealed.

Measuring 5.15 meters long, the unique Estoque, carries a front end in familiar Lamborghini style with gaping diamond shaped air intake scoops linked by a lower spoiler. Under the hood we are likely to find the 560 hp V10 from the Gallardo LP 560-4, and of course with all-wheel-drive.

Nissan Nuvu Concept

The new Nissan Nuvu Concept is a model that would nicely fit into the coming future. The curvaceous body profile, smooth design lines and futuristic interior back up this theory. But back in reality, we are actually looking at a preview of the next generation Nissan Micra.

The mini car is just 3 meters long but the interior has been designed to provide customer the 2+1 layout. Power for the concept comes from a zero emissions Electric drivetrain. This electric motor is mounted on the rear of the vehicle with all of it power output directed to the back wheels. A driving range of 125km and a top speed of 120km/h is speculated.
