The ad even shows how the get out of that place and how to park. However, don’t ever park your Toyota iQ that way, unless you're a professional stunt driver.

How Car Suspension Works

While driving your vehicle, you may have come across uneven surfaces and broken roads. As you drive through such path, what keeps you safe and provide a smooth drive is the suspension of your car.

Upward force from road and Car pressure force downwards are in balance, on smooth roads. On uneven paths the upward force may exceed the downward force, leading to toppling of the car. The automobile suspension transforms the direction of the ensuing force from upward direction to the direction that corresponds to movement of the car.

Automobile Suspension increases(maximizes) the friction between tires and the road and to provide steering stability with good handling and to ensure the comfort of the passengers. In luxury cars, the significance of automobile suspension acquires newer heights since a smooth ride requires complete absorption of bumps.

The Technical Part :

A bump in the road causes the wheel to move up and down perpendicular to the road surface. The magnitude, of course, depends on whether the wheel is striking a giant bump or a tiny speck. Either way, the car wheel experiences a vertical acceleration as it passes over an imperfection.

As the wheel is jumping, it may sometimes lose contact with the road completely. Then, under the downward force of gravity, the wheels can slam back into the road surface. What you need is a system that will absorb the energy of the vertically accelerated wheel, allowing the frame and body to ride undisturbed while the wheels follow bumps in the road.

A suspension system comprises springs, shock absorbers and linkages. This suspension connects an automobile to its wheels. The suspension systems not only help in the proper functioning of the car's handling and braking, but also keep vehicle occupants comfortable and make your drive smooth and pleasant. It also protects the vehicle from wear and tear.

How Car Crusher Works ?

For every beginning there's an end. Every shiny new car on the showroom floor will one day end up in a junkyard, its value no greater than the weight of the metal used to build it.

One of the most important stops an old car reaches at the end of the line is the crusher -- a massive machine whose only purpose is to compress a car into a tiny cube or flattened slab.

A car crusher is a piece of machinery used to compress the metal remains of a junked car after it has been stripped of all useful parts. Compressing them takes up less space when stored, or when transported via truck or train to a recycling facility. A crusher is just one step of the auto-recycling process.

Crushers can be portable or stationary. Older machines tend to be stationary - once they're set up in a scrap yard, they stay there. Today, most crushers are portable. They are built mounted to a standard-size truck trailer, and can be towed to various locations, set up, used to crush some things, then moved somewhere else. This helps cut costs for auto salvage yards.

Why Crushing ?
About 65 percent of a junked car is made from steel (the rest is made from other metals plus glass, rubber and upholstery). The price for scrap steel and iron, though volatile, often hovers around $250 per ton.

Recycling metal uses about 74 percent less energy than making new steel, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Recycled steel is cheaper as well, since new ore doesn't have to be mined to produce it.

All steel produced today has at least 25 percent recycled steel in it, and some products are made entirely from recycled steel. So in addition to the economic and environmental benefits, recycling cars is a vital link in the world's industrial infrastructure.

Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo Test Drive

Lamborghini officially tested the Gallardo Super Trofeo on the Vallelunga Race Track near Rome with driver Giorgio Sanna behind the wheel. The Italian manufacturer has high hopes on the racing circuit, especially now that the car has surpassed everyone's expectations by posting lap times faster than any ever recorded with a single-brand trophy race car.

They refer to its Super Trofeo Series as the "fastest single-brand competition". Who knows, it may very well be. The first race of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo will take place on 2 May 2009 at Silverstone.

The Gallardo Super Trofeo is based on the LP 560-4 model and powered by that car's 5.2L direct-inject V10 tuned to produced 570 horsepower. All that power is tamed by Lamborghini's e.gear six-speed "robotized" gear box and permanent all-wheel-drive.

In addition, the suspension has been track tuned by Lamborghini, the wheels are wrapped in competition Pirellis, the brakes have been upgraded, the rear wing is adjustable and the interior features a lightweight racing seat and steering wheel. It sounds like a gentleman racer's dream.

Starting in May, the Super Trofeo will make guest appearances at six race events – at Silverstone (UK), on the Adria Raceway (Italy), on the Norisring (Germany), in Spa (Belgium), in Barcelona (Spain) and on Paul Ricard racetrack (France).

Lamborghini is building 30 cars for the Super Trofeo, which they are making available to individual enthusiasts, as well as to Lamborghini dealer teams. The factory will enter one car for itself, and plans to commission well-known guest drivers to take the wheel.

Importing Luxury Cars Now Easier : India

Luxury sedans such as Toyota's Lexus and Mercedes Benz S-Class will be easier to import, especially from the US, with the government doing away with safety and emission certificates from the 'country of origin' but the vehicles must comply with European standards.

A new imported vehicle with FOB (freight-onboard) value of $40,000 or more with over 3,000cc for petrol- run engine and over 2,500cc for diesel engine would be eligible for the easier norms.

Under the relaxed rules, imported vehicles which need homologation to make it suitable for Indian conditions , need not have a certification from an authorized body in the country of origin, as was required earlier.

But, they need to comply with EU standards. It is expected that the move will help companies like Toyota, which can now import its Lexus brand, and Mercedes Benz to bring its S-Class.

US does not have a nationalized certification authority and makes import of vehicles cumbersome. At the time of customs clearance, a Type Approval Certificate of a global accredited agency from the country of origin would be required.

So, now I hope to see more of Mercedes and other luxury brands on roads and car parking. At least I can park my car beside them, if not afford to buy!

Bugatti Veyron Video : In Top Gear

Everyone dreams of driving the likes of Bugatti Veyron and Aston Martin. But then, every tom and dick can't offered it. And thats what makes these fast beauties so precious a possession. A glimpse or even a pic of these cars make you dream. We rarely see them on roads, while shopping and taking a walk. But you do have the chance of watching it online.

The guys from Top Gear, and pretty much everybody else, have waited a long time to do a power lap in the Bugatti Veyron and see if it gets on top of their board. They took the mighty Veyron up to its top speed, they raced it against a plane, but they never had the chance to see how well it does on their test track, until now. In the latest episode of the British TV show The Stig takes the Bugatti Veyron for a power lap of their track. We won't tell you how it ends.

Rolling to Google PR3 : My Ride (Part I)

Hi friends,

I am not really good at giving SEO and blogging tips. But I will try my best to impart what all I gathered during my journey to Google PR3. To give the best to you, I have broken down the path into 3 parts :

Creating Blog
The initial 3 Months
The road ahead.

PART I - CREATING BLOG

I started this blog Cars On rOll, sometime in July, this year. Earlier I used to write on whatever I felt like from a latest gadget in market to prevailing social issues. But as I explored this blogging world, I realized that its better to get started with a particular niche. I chose Cars. So, the initial phase is choosing your niche. Its really confusing to decide on what to blog about, but you know there are millions of people searching for million topics/niche. So, start with anything under the sun (something in which you take interest) and you will certainly find readers!

One more thing to note is you URL(you choose at the time of creating your blog). Most of the beginners forget this aspect. The URL of your blog must be similar to your blog niche. It means that the URL, you choose/create must reflect your blog theme and give an idea of what you blog about. Like Cars On rOll sounds like something related to Cars. Although its a part of SEO, but one must know this fact at the very beginning because its easier to change at the beginning. I, too started with a different URL (perplexedvyas.blogspot.com) and then after choosing my niche shifted over to the current one. If you can afford a domain name, its much better.

Now comes the template. Google blogspot provides some default templates. You can either choose from the default templates or get your own from the web. Search out for the best design, which suits your blog and implement the same. Here are some sites which provides the XML templates for blogspot :

eblog templates
blogger templates

Next on the list comes your content. The content has to be good. It must be different and unique in its own manner. But you can't get everything different like I can't change the specifications of the cars I write about. But then you can add your views, compare them with other cars and fondle with words. Enhance your writing skills - thats the secret. The way you write a post and the information you share matters a lot. While writing a post, add some personal touch. Be humble. Enhancing your writing skills takes time (I am also trying hard at it). Do read blogs of experienced and professional blogger to get an idea of the same.

DONE!! Your blog is created. Here is a quick review of all the key points :

Choose a blogging domain (blogspot/wordpress).
Decide on a niche for your blog.
Get the URL correct.
Choose a Template according to your requirements.
Keep the Content good.
Add a personal touch and be humble in your writing.
Enhance your writing skills.

This was the first part of my experience with blogging. I don't want you to repeat the mistakes I committed. Remember these whenever you begin with a new blog or else you can always visit mine :) Feel free to add your experience or tips, by commenting below. It will be useful for all the newbies in blogging.

My Car in III Gear !!!

I was rolling on, gaining speed gradually, changing gears and crossing milestones. I never looked back. And On my way, I got this :

Is it a reward of my past efforts or a motivation for continuing my efforts!! There are many ways of interpreting but I am glad that I am in. Blogging for me hasn't been a long journey, as I started this july but it seems to be a long journey ahead.

I came across many new things - SEO, Online/Offline marketing, Niche, Google Keywords and what not. I tried everything & often kept changing my blog-looks to make it better. Reading and commenting on blogs was part of my job. I loved it and in the process found some really nice people.

At this car stop, I like to thank all my fellow friends, bloggers, online social connections and Google(the Greatest source of information on net). Their advice and suggestions helped me a lot. They have been with me all this time & will remain for miles ahead, too.

The gear has been shifted to the next level and I have to take a broader route to drive safe. Keep rolling with me and you will soon reach your destination.

Thanks.

No Need To Bend Your Knees : Honda's Walking Assist Device

Are you suffering from arthritis ? or having weak leg muscles ? Do you have problem in walking ? HEY!! you are not visiting a Health Blog, its still Cars On rOll. Well... I wish you don't have any of those physical ailments but still if you are suffering from any one of them or your family member, then here is a solution - the new Honda Walking Assistance Device.

This device will help you out with your damaged muscles or knee problems. It aims to reduce the load on the user's legs while walking, going up and down the stairs, and also while sitting in a semi-crouching position. Here are the device's specifications :

Weight - 6.5 kg
2 Electric Motors
1 Lithium ion Battery

The structure consists of : seat, frame, and shoes, and the user can put it on by simply wearing the shoes and lifting the seat into position.

Working : Honda developed a unique mechanism where the seat and frame follow the movement of the body and legs. The assisting force will be directed toward the user's center of gravity, just as with human legs, which enables the device to provide assistance in various movements and postures like walking, going up and down stairs, and in a semi-crouching position.

One of the prominent feature in this device is that the user can utilize it without need of a belt to fasten the device to their body.

The main target as Honda earlier said are the elderly people and people undergoing rehabilitation who need support for their leg muscles and joints.

Honda began research this walking assist device in 1999 with the goal to provide more people with the joy of mobility. The experiment was first demonstrated at the BARRIER FREE 2008 in Japan. And apparently employs some of the same technology developed by Honda for its ASIMO robot.

Here is a demonstration video of the Robot legs for humans :

So, a pair of artificial knees are not so bad, if you get the advantage of mobility :) And not to forget it extends the life of your limbs too. Yet another leap in science & technology. The robots seems to get more into our lives, making it easier and more sophisticated. Hope it doesn't go the iRobot way !!

Winter Driving Tips

Even the most experienced drivers can find their nerves and skills tested during the harsh winters. The long hours of darkness coupled with chilly winds, fog and snow in some parts making driving difficult. Here are some car driving tips to warm up your winter worries.

Warming Up The Engine

It is extremely vital not to start driving before your engine is warmed up. 60 to 100 seconds is usually ideal time to keep your car idle with the engine on. When the weather is unusually cold, remember to drive at slower speeds for a few km to give your car time to warm up.

Vehicle Maintenance

Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained. Here are a few things that need to be given attention :

TYRES :
Tyre wear and tear become critical once it starts snowing and slush is formed. A chilly morning is ideal time to check your tyre inflation pressure.

LIGHTS :
Make sure the head-lights and tail-lights are at their functional best. Fog lights are boon in misty conditions. To make the most of fog lights ensure that they are placed at the lower portion of the bumper. Also yellow fog light offers more visibility than white light.

WINDSCREEN AND WIPERS :
Make sure the windscreen is devoid of multiple scratches and the wiper blades are in good condition. Better visibility is required when there is dark misty weather.

RADIATOR AND COOLANT :
In case of extremely low temperatures, a radiator blind can also be used to make the engine operate at optimum temperatures. Also make sure the coolant concentrate is right before winter sets in or it might end up in frozen radiator.

BATTERY :
Check the battery. It takes more power to start a car in cold. Ensure clean, tight connections and proper fluid levels.

HEATER & DEFOGGING :
Always use the heater with the air conditioner's toggle button turned on 'Fresh air' mode. Set air intake control and air flow control to a well ventilated position. When the car is fogged from inside, the AC can be used for increased defogging action.

In case A/C is non-functional, a slice of raw potato or crushed cigarette tobacco can be scrubbed on the windscreen to avoid misting.

TAKE IT EASY!
While driving through fog, ensure you drive slowly and keep your eyes trained on the vehicle ahead of you. You should ideally drive at a speed that allows you to stop within the distance of your visibility.

Braking

Make sure you know how to use your braking system in all weather and road conditions. Antilock brakes work differently than older braking systems. Consider taking an advanced driving course that teaches emergency driving skills.

Snowy Roads

Snow on a road may be hard-packed and slippery as ice. It can also be rutted and full of hard tracks and gullies. Or it can be smooth and soft. Wet snow can make for slushy roads. Heavy slush can build up in the wheel wells of your vehicle and can affect your ability to steer. Remember, look far ahead as you drive, so you can recognize hazards and have plenty of time to respond. Adjust your driving to the road and weather conditions. Slow down and avoid sudden turns of the steering wheel, and sudden braking and accelerating which could cause a skid.

Ice

Be careful when approaching shaded areas, bridges, and overpasses, as these sections of road freeze much sooner in cold weather and stay frozen long after the sun has risen. Watch out for black ice, areas of the road that appear black and shiny, as they can cause your vehicle to suddenly lose traction. Slow down, keep your foot off the brake, and be ready to shift to neutral or step on the clutch as your vehicle crosses these areas.

Snow spray

On snow-covered highways, large trucks and buses can raise or blow snow onto your windshield leading to a sudden loss of visibility. Always drive defensively and leave enough space to avoid their snow spray.

With these things on mind, I hope you will be going to have a safe winter. Enjoy safe and happy driving.
